Youth ages 10-17 who live in the greater Charlotte Mecklenburg area can hone their musical talents at the second annual Young Icons Recording Arts Camp, a week-long summer intensive lead by national recording artist Jason Jet. The camp is scheduled for Monday, June 18 through Friday, June 22 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Studio East (5457 Monroe Rd, Charlotte, NC 28212).
Designed specifically with young adults in mind, the curriculum includes everything from vocal and music coaching to songwriting. Each class is taught by an accomplished music industry professional. At the end of the week, students will have had the unique opportunity of recording in a professional studio and will be featured in the Young Icons talent showcase in July 2018. This program is all about fostering creativity, inspiring our youth and helping to build dreams.
Young Icons is the brainchild of Jet, who founded the program to encourage and inspire teens and pre-teens who are looking to explore the music industry as a possible future career.
“I started this camp because I remember producing in my living room at 10 years old and not having the confidence to perform or the outlet to express my art with others my age,” says Jet. “Young aspiring artists, like I was, need to be immersed in an artistic environment to flourish—that’s what Young Icons is all about.”
Special guest instructors for the camp include Adrian Crutchfield (Global Recording Artist and was Prince’s lead Sax player), Arsena (Global Recording Artist), and Will White (National Recording Artist). Last year participants were able to record 11 songs in just one week. Current registration is $250 per child for the program and is due by June 16 to secure a spot.
