Tarsha’ Hamilton to be honored at The 5th Annual Red Pump/Red Tie Affair
with 2013 Red Pump Award
Charlotte, NC—December 3, 2013—The Red Pump Project selects Tarsha’ Hamilton as the 2013 recipient of the Red Pump Award for her being a champion in the fight against AIDS. Each year The Red Pump Award is awarded to an exceptional woman leader doing productive and meaningful work for HIV/AIDS education, while making substantial contributions to the community through her individual efforts. Hamilton will be recognized during a special award ceremony during the 5th Annual Red Pump/Red Tie Affair on December 7 in commemoration of World AIDS Day.
Hamilton is the perfect personification of what The Red Pump Project is all about– delivering education and promoting awareness with style. Hamilton is a woman with many talents, wearing a wide variety of hats. She is a singer/songwriter born and raised in Cleveland, OH. The church is where her roots lie and it rings loud through her music. She released her first inspirational album, “The McMillian Story” independently in 2008 and has ministered her songs as far as Japan and South Africa. While working on her sophomore album Hamilton experienced the devastating loss of her brother Michael to AIDS. It wasn’t the first family member she’d lost to the disease. Both her mother and father succumbed to HIV/AIDS several years before. In 2009, she decided to break her silence and become an advocate on bringing light to the effects of HIV/AIDS in the African-American and faith-based communities, being a voice for those infected and affected by the disease. Hamilton continues her work as an advocate for families affected and infected with HIV/AIDS and has partnered with a Charlotte based non-profit, M.B.S., on opening a facility in 2014 called “The Trinity House” that will provide free services for families living in greater Charlotte infected/affected by HIV/AIDS. This is where her sorrow truly turns into joy.
The Red Pump/Red Tie Affair is a signature event for The Red Pump Project and helps further its mission to raise awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls, ensuring that women are empowered with accurate knowledge about HIV/AIDS and the issues surrounding it. Proceeds from the 2013 Red Pump/Red Tie Affair will go toward Red Pump programs to benefit individuals here in Charlotte as well as nationally. Idea connector and fashion professional Mike Watson and media personality, creator of STYLE Week Charlotte and Publisher of Charlotte and Carolina STYLE Magazines Brie W will co-host this year’s affair. Guests will enjoy a true red carpet experience complete with tunes by DJ Royale, tasty sweets from Snickerdoodle’s Cakes, special performances and a fashion presentation featuring the collections of Bill Evans, Kevin Vain, T’Shanell Designs, Flow by Tara Davis and Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th with accessories provided by Accessory Gardin.
