As a JSW Media Team, we have embraced The Red Pump Project since its inception, making it our charity of choice. We believe in the mission and we are committed to furthering the cause when and wherever we can. One of our favorite days of the year is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day because it gives us the opportunity to stand with women all over who are fighting for a cure, living with AIDS or being both affected and effected by the prevalence of the HIV epidemic in some way. Here’s a statistic, I’m sure you’ve read before:

Every 47 minutes in the United States, a woman will be diagnosed with HIV/AIDS.

No matter how many times I see or recite that statistic, it still hits me hard every single time.  HIV is 100 percent preventable; It’s our job to make sure that ALL women take control of their sexual health, learn how to ask the right questions and be prepared to practice a lifestyle of prevention.  It’s time to be empowered with knowledge.  Ignorance is not bliss, in 2014 ignorance can be deadly, especially when you are talking about HIV/AIDS.  So, that’s why the ladies of JSW Media #RockTheRedPump, and that’s also why the men in our lives support us.  We bring awareness so that someone’s life may be saved.

I’m so glad and thankful that “Awareness is Always in Style.”

About The Red Pump Project®
The Red Pump Project® is a nonprofit organization that raises awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls. We empower, educate, and motivate action by boldly driving conversation online and offline around HIV prevention and issues related to sexual and reproductive health. We use the Red Pump as a symbol of empowerment to represent the strength and courage of women affected by HIV/AIDS. Founded in March 2009 by Luvvie Ajayi and Karyn Watkins, Red Pump believes that if HIV affects one, it affects us all. The incorporation of fashion into the message of HIV prevention is our contribution as we hope to show that Awareness is Always in Style! www.redpump.org.

Jameka S. Whitten loves to blog about fashion, style, relationships and social issues.  Jameka serves as CEO and Chief Publicist of JSW Media Group as is a dedicated Red Pump Ambassador
