Christopher walked into the tailors to pick up his mentor’s suit. The suits were lined up in rows but Chris never really paid attention until that moment. As a surprise, his mentor had a suit tailored for him. This was Chris’ first suit. He never realized how exhilarating this experience was until he left the shop with the initial idea of “My 1st Suit.” This is when he decided he wanted to pass this experience on to others like him.
With the unemployment rate at its all time high at 8.9 percent, * many are asking what can we do to find jobs. Some of us are living from paycheck to paycheck choosing which bills to pay that month. This has had a major toll on whom we are and our confidence has dropped to all new lows. Times are hard but one man is trying to change the way men feel about themselves. Christopher Williams is CEO and creator of My 1st Suit, a program that allows men to build their self-esteem and providing them tools to succeed in both a personal and professional setting.
My 1st Suit’s mission is to change lives. The point of this program is to empower men to become professionals and achieve their personal goals. Christopher created this program just for that reason.
“My 1st Suit is to create awareness about young adults’ self-esteem and how it contributes to their daily lives,” Christopher explains. “Our target is men 18-26 and by partnering with clothiers across the country we will raise the overall morale of all young men. The young men also experience a five-weekend intensive of learning, accomplishing tasks and character building.”
Since the program began in 2010, Christopher has high expectations to touch many men around the world. He wants men to feel confident about who they are and reach their dreams with the sky being the limit.
“We will touch 15 young men between the ages of 18-26,” Christopher says. “Keeping our numbers small will allow us to use our resources wisely and have a great impact on the lives we touch.”
Christopher founded this program to encourage other young men to feel the same way he did when his mentor blessed him with his very first suit. He wants to build confidence in men and teach them how to accomplish their dreams.
“Instead of thinking of why you shouldn’t, think ‘why not,’ Christopher says. “Too many times we disqualify ourselves because of where we are and we can’t see how to get to where we ultimately want to be. This program is designed to help you make the first step in life toward a better future by putting you in places that allow you to see a better you. So if you’re reading this, it’s your time.”
This program is more than just helping young men grow professionally, but it is to grow them mentally. For this reason, young men that have thought about joining the program should think about how it can help them.
“My 1st Suit is to be that place that gives young men opportunity and expose them to people, places and things that will stretch them mentally,” Christopher explains. “The power of exposure changes people’s lives tremendously.”
