We’re proud to announce that JSW Media will be one of the sponsors of this year’s 5th Annual Black Fathers Rock! Cocktail Reception and Celebration hosted by author, speaker, and creator of BFR, Ryan Jor El Coleman. The event will take place on Sunday, June 19th, 2022, at 5 p.m. at 8.20 Event Space & Catering in the NC Music Factory (820 Hamilton Street). The Black Fathers Rock! event will be a night of celebration, honoring Black fathers in the Charlotte community.
Black Fathers Rock! (BFR!) is a non-profit organization that aims to change the narrative that all black fathers are absent. The organization seeks to dispel the notion by empowering black fathers with resources to strengthen and promote strong families and teach the importance of fatherhood through workshops, programming, and events tailored to the organization’s purpose.
BFR takes pride in highlighting fathers who are active and present in the Charlotte community. As part of its outreach endeavors, the organization has worked with the City of Charlotte’s Community Relations Department and area schools to inspire youth and discuss growing up fatherless, participated in the ‘State of Our Black Boys’ panel discussion, provided food for 800 children and their families at COVID, and served at the Men’s Shelter and Hospitality House. The organization has witnessed fathers reconcile with their families as a result and hopes to achieve 1,000 success stories of a like nature within its lifetime.
The annual Black Fathers Rock! Celebration brings together black patriarchs for an evening of positivity, strength, and love. BFR will highlight stories of amazing fathers who exist in the Charlotte community and provide resources for fathers in need of guidance. The event will include an awards ceremony honoring the eight honorees as follows: Activist of the year, Comeback Father of the Year, Co-Parent of the Year, Entrepreneur of the year, Dapper Dad of the year, Surrogate father of the year, Senior father of the year, and Father of the year. Some of the past honorees include WCNC’s Fred Shropshire, City Councilman Braxton Winston, Reverend Dr. Clifford A. Jones, Sr., and Super Bowl Champion Roman Harper. We are excited about this year’s event and hope to see everyone there as we honor America’s unsung hero – the black patriarch.
